AFP reports “GUATEMALA CITY — Torrential rains and flooding unleashed by Tropical Storm Agatha have killed at least 40 people in Guatemala, authorities said Sunday.” A side view of this sink hole can be seen in the AFP article’s associated slide show.
CNN Reports “Tropical storm leaves more than 115 dead in Central America: In the northern part of Guatemala City, the downpour created a giant sinkhole that swallowed up a space larger than the area of a street intersection. Residents told CNN that a three-story building and a house fell into the hole.”

Dejavu, this has happened before! In 2007 Reuters reports “Hole opens in Guatemala neighborhood, 3 missing: GUATEMALA CITY Fri Feb 23, 2007 4:56pm EST (Reuters) – Three people were missing on Friday after a 200-foot-deep hole opened up in the middle of a Guatemalan neighborhood, likely due to a burst sewer pipe.”
