When you first read Harper Lee’s seminal work To Kill a Mockingbird you were probably tucked into bed with milk and cookies. Now it’s time to dust off the book and re-enjoy this gem, celebrating its 50th anniversary by shaking up a Tequila Mockingbird sundowner to enjoy it by …

Recipe: Tequila Mockingbird …

Ingredients: For one drink …

1 1/2 oz Tequila
3/4 oz Green Creme de Menthe
Juice of 1 Lime

Method: Shake ingredients with ice and strain into cocktail glass!

My aim was to buy an eBook, either for iBooks or Kindle — but this book is still only for sale in print. Yikes! Well, since I already own the book (probably two by now) I’m going to use this as an opportunity to learn how to make an eBook of To Kill a Mockingbird. I’ve done small ePubs and, of course, .pdf files. But this time I’d like to build a fully featured ePub for iPhone and iPad — one which dynamically adjusts to the available screen size and has a useful table of contents.

Tools: Adobe InDesign 4 or 5 (purchase or 30 day free trial) and Adobe’s free Digital Editions eBook reader.

Ingredients: The book’s text is available at www.truly-free.org and you can search for some cover art in Google images.

Method: Video podcasts Creating an eBook with InDesign Part 1 and Part 2.

I guess I’ll have to be less liberal with Tequila Mockingbird and put more focus into the creation of my own ePub of To Kill a Mockingbird.
