Ikea self-checkout crash: Guess what OS it’s running?

We stepped up to start a new transaction when the check out terminal crashed and then rebooted itself — we hadn’t even touched it. Ikea staff quickly rushed to cover it with a bag after they watched me photograph it — but did nothing to help us get first in line for the next available check out.

BTW Windows it’s apparently also good enough for Apple Computer retail stores to use on their hand held check out devices. When will they show confidence and switch to their own hand held device and OS? Or is Windows simply the best OS one can get on a check out appliance?

How do you save a draft email in the iPhone’s Mail application?

So here’s something that Apple’s GUI gurus didn’t get right: How to save draft email in the iPad/iPhone’s Mail application.

Stop writing. Hit “Cancel” (1), yes, I know, that doesn’t feel right or comforting. But then up pops the option to “Save” (2) your email. You’ll then find it in your “Drafts” (3) folder.

If you have multiple email accounts, you may need to back out of “All Inboxes” and then scroll down to the specific email account you were sending from — before navigating into the appropriate “Drafts” folder.

Short cut to retrieve a draft: As long as you don’t restart your iPhone, there’s a short-cut to retrieve the last last draft you saved: Simply press and hold the button to compose a new email — until you draft reappears.

Some people just don’t get usability: Which button would you press?

Whether you intended added or deleted attendees to be notified, which button would you press for either of the alternatives given?

Usability = Productivity!
